feelings of defeat that stem from awaiting an endometriosis diagnosis. to do this she explore the connection between hysteria and endometriosis in their symptoms and treatments. having always felt an affinity to the sea, williams felt it only right to investigate the rest cure and spending time beside the sea. while in positions of rest, williams creates full body cyanotypes that are then washed out in the sea, combining the two acts that claim to help soothe her symptoms. this is then paired with labour intensive activities such as bookbinding and rhinestoning, acts to remind us that one public spaces to private ones, exploring the pressures she feels from certain feminist views and those of the patriarchal society. the work has been described as ‘nauseating erotica’, it aims to make the audience uncomfortable while simultaneously reminding them of sex - to do this williams uses the mouth and close up images of fruits to depict suggestive situations. the project began to develop after williams started to explore her position with in her romantic relationship and how that complicated the way she feels about her feminism, realising that her insecurities in regard to this were deeper that her interactions with men. through this work williams has become to understand the unnecessary paranoia she feels about not being good enough and hopes that the work can help other women ndometriosis and the fragility that it comes with. the eight polaroid transfers symbolise the average of eight years to recieve a diagnosis, each image refrencing a part of williams’ that has been impacted by the condition. the transfers are placed onto clingfilm, mimicking the texture of the uterine lining.
